Aave: The discontinuation of support for low-usage assets and networks should not be construed as a stance against any L1 or L2

July 30th, Aave founder Stani Kulechov stated that Aave's recent offboarding of low-usage assets and networks should not be interpreted as a stance against any L1 or L2. The goal of this move is simply to reduce Aave's operational, technical, and economic risk exposure in order to focus on higher-impact priorities, such as expanding into existing high-value markets and entering the security funding space.

The user experience on Ethereum's L2 remains crucial. For example, the Aave App's Safety Module relies on L2 as the settlement layer, which will help onboard mainstream users into DeFi. Similarly, networks like Avalanche play a key role in bringing real-world assets (RWA) on-chain through institutional business expansion, an area where Ethereum has historically been relatively weak.
