Japan's New Round of Currency Intervention May Have Cost $87 Billion

August 4th, according to recent reports from the United States, in order to support the yen exchange rate, the Bank of Japan may have deployed approximately $87 billion in its latest round of forex intervention, equivalent to 11 trillion yen. The report stated that based on the BOJ's latest money market data, the central bank likely intervened in the forex market on July 30th and 31st, using around $53 billion and $34 billion respectively, totaling $87 billion or 11 trillion yen to buy yen to support the exchange rate.
