South Korea is planning to introduce the "Super Special Zone Act" to accelerate the development of semiconductors, physical AI, and AI data centers

August 10th - The South Korean government plans to enact the "Super Zone Special Act" by the end of this year to provide policy support for three major national strategic projects: semiconductor, physical AI, and AI data centers, accelerating the development of related industries.

The Chief Presidential Secretary of South Korea, Kang Hoon-sik, stated that the new law will shorten project approval and environmental impact assessment processes. It will also expedite the construction of electricity, water supply, transportation, as well as residential and educational supporting infrastructure to enhance South Korea's global competitiveness in artificial intelligence and semiconductor fields.

The South Korean government plans to complete the relocation and temporary adjustment of relevant military facilities by the second half of 2028, allowing the military airport land to be used early for the construction of a semiconductor industrial park. In addition to the current 8.3 million square meters of land designated as a national industrial park, the government will also consider expanding the surrounding development area based on corporate demand.

Furthermore, South Korea will develop plans for recycled water use, surrounding dam water supply, and power supply assurance to meet the demands of a large-scale semiconductor industry cluster. Regarding the relocation of U.S. facilities within the Gwangju Military Airport, the South Korean government also plans to negotiate with the United States. Currently, the U.S. side is reported to have responded positively.
