According to Dynamic Beating's monitoring, Anthropic has decided not to further increase the API price of Claude Sonnet 5, setting the launch price as the long-term price. The fee remains at $2 per million input tokens and $10 for output tokens. The planned price hike to $3 and $15 on September 1 has been canceled.

At a unit price level, Sonnet 5 is now one-third cheaper than Sonnet 4.6 and priced only at 40% of Opus 4.8. Anthropic stated that it has already matched Opus 4.8 in some high-intensity tasks.

This lower price was originally intended as a transitional solution. Sonnet 5 has switched to a new tokenizer, which can result in up to a 35% increase in the number of tokens for the same input. Anthropic had previously indicated that the launch price would roughly offset the cost of the upgrade. This pricing tier is now being maintained permanently.
