Claude failed to prove the Riemann Hypothesis, but pushed the human record from 41.6% to 67.2%.

According to the Dynamic Insight Beating Monitor, Anthropic has enabled an upcoming Claude research edition to challenge the Riemann Hypothesis. This puzzle, which has puzzled the mathematics community for over 160 years, posits that a set of zeroes related to prime number distribution should all fall on the same line.

Mathematicians have been trying to prove how many zeroes actually lie on this line, with the previous highest confirmation rate being only 41.6%. Claude has directly elevated this record to 67.2%.

The process was not smooth. In the first round, Claude attempted 650 approaches, none of which succeeded. In the second round, around 60 sub-agents were mobilized to research continuously for a day and a half, with only two agents discovering the key mathematical insight. They ultimately connected recent number theory advancements with mathematician Bombieri's 2000 research, leading to a new proof.

Two mathematicians from Anthropic validated the results, and Claude also completed a Lean formalized proof. Two external number theory experts also reviewed the paper.
