A certain mysterious entity's address is suspected of taking on a 42 million barrel short position in crude oil, and subsequently adding 25 million in margin to cover the loss.
August 11th, according to TradingBeats (formerly Hyperinsight) monitoring, a suspected liquidity provider address 0x17c3 (with significant fund flow with FalconX) accepted a large short position during the oil price surge, with approximately $26.05 million passively executed through a Maker order, accounting for 54.2%; the rest was actively executed as Taker. It is currently short about 245,100 barrels of WTI crude oil and 243,400 barrels of Brent crude oil with 3x leverage:
The short position in WTI crude oil is worth approximately $204.45 million, with an average entry price of $79.02 per barrel, resulting in a floating loss of approximately $1.079 million;
The short position in Brent crude oil is worth approximately $215.38 million, with an average entry price of $83.83 per barrel, resulting in a floating loss of approximately $1.132 million.
The total value of the two crude oil short positions is approximately $419.83 million, with a floating loss of approximately $2.211 million, accounting for 90.7% of the total position of $462.68 million in this address account. If the above positions are considered the net inventory formed by market making, today's oil price increase has significantly pressured its short crude oil inventory.
The fund flow indicates that the address replenished $10 million USDC to the account early this morning; since the oil price surge on August 7th, there have been several subsequent inflows, totaling $25 million. The fund inflows coincided with the oil price increase and the widening of short positions losses, possibly used to increase the margin safety cushion and maintain inventory carrying capacity.
The address currently holds 26 underlying positions, with a total notional value of approximately $462.68 million, and an overall floating loss of about $2.152 million. The accumulated loss in the past 30 days is approximately $6.102 million.
