Bloomberg: World Cup Fever Subsides, Polymarket Trading Volume Significantly Decreases

Aug 12, 12:12

August 12, according to Bloomberg, the prediction market platform Polymarket experienced a trading frenzy during the 2026 World Cup, with bets centered around match scores, celebrity sightings, and player-related events, bringing in significant transaction volume to the platform. However, as the World Cup concluded, the market heat quickly dissipated, and Polymarket is now facing a "cooling-off period."

During the World Cup, both Polymarket and Kalshi, the two major prediction market platforms, saw a peak in trading volume, but by the end of July, Polymarket's combined weekly trading volume for its international and U.S. platforms had dropped by 56% from the June peak. In contrast, Kalshi experienced a decline of about 25% during the same period.

Bloomberg pointed out that Polymarket previously engaged in fierce competition with Kalshi in the prediction market field. However, with the lack of major sports events or political occurrences driving user demand, the downward trend in Polymarket's trading activity is intensifying.
