「The Big Short」 Michael Burry Updates Portfolio: Exits Tesla Position, Initiates Short Position on Applied Materials, Reduces Semiconductor Sector Shorts, and Increases Nasdaq Put Options Bet
August 14th. "The Big Short" prototype Michael Burry disclosed his latest holdings, with his long positions mainly concentrated in Adobe, MercadoLibre, Zoetis, JD.com, etc., with individual positions accounting for about 8%; Lululemon, PayPal, Veeva, Flutter, Molina Healthcare, and HCA Healthcare with individual positions accounting for about 7%. Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, and Sprouts each accounted for about 5%.
On the short side, Burry currently holds short positions in descending order of scale in iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX), Micron Technology, Nebius, Nvidia, Oracle, Palantir, Caterpillar, etc., while also holding puts on the Invesco QQQ Trust (about 6% of the portfolio).
Regarding portfolio adjustments, Burry has completely closed out his short positions on Tesla and Applied Materials, stating that both trades were profitable. He has also sold all SOXX put options and instead established a larger position in QQQ put options. In addition, he reduced his short position in Caterpillar, increased his short position in Micron, and raised the cash percentage to 12%.
Based on his disclosed adjustments, his short focus has shifted from a pure semiconductor sector decline bet to an increased bet on a Nasdaq market decline.
