Firecrawl raises $75 million: Building a 'unified data source gateway' for AI Agents
Beating AI News Flash: Firecrawl has completed a $75 million Series B funding round, led by Smash Capital, and simultaneously launched Alexandria. It connects web search, third-party data sources, and Firecrawl's own index into a single interface, so AI Agents no longer need to integrate separate APIs for each type of data.
For example, when an Agent looks up a company, it can first search the web, then directly call Fiscal.ai to obtain financial data; for economic data, it can use FRED and World Bank; for coding, it can search GitHub and Firecrawl's Developer Index. Currently, Alexandria also covers scientific research papers, government data, commodities, real estate, recruitment, and other data, and can be accessed via API, MCP, and CLI.
Firecrawl says that after testing the same model and prompt on 845 tasks, the answer quality using Alexandria was 21% higher than the model's built-in web tools.
This funding round will also be used to purchase and integrate more data. Firecrawl has already paid to use Wikimedia Enterprise, and next it plans to have more researchers, publishers, and data providers connect their content to Alexandria and earn revenue when Agents use this data.
