Pi officially integrates with OSC 7501, eliminating the need to guess Agent status via the terminal.

Beating AI News Flash: Ghostty creator Mitchell Hashimoto recently proposed a new terminal status protocol, OSC 7501. It allows programs to proactively tell the terminal whether they are working, waiting for the user, finished, or have encountered an error, eliminating the need for the terminal to infer status from screen content. Rex already has preliminary support, and now open-source Coding Agent Pi has officially integrated it in version 1.1.0.

When Pi starts, it first asks the terminal whether it supports OSC 7501, and only sends status after confirming support. When the Agent is running or compressing context, it reports working; when a user needs to handle a dialog or log in, it is blocked; when a task ends, it is done; when an error cannot be retried, it is error; and after the user actively cancels, it returns to idle.

Pi does not send prompts or model output to the terminal. Status messages only include necessary information such as the session name, dialog title, or the first line of an error.
