'AI Stock God' Leopold Fund Holds Anthropic, May Face Compliance Risks After IPO
October 14 — "AI stock god" Leopold's fund Situational Awareness LP holds private equity in Anthropic, while his wife Avital Balwit serves as Chief of Staff to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. Recent reports indicate that Anthropic could go public as early as next month, with a valuation of up to approximately $2 trillion. Once publicly traded, Leopold's close relationship with company executives could give him access to material non-public information, and related trades would face federal regulatory risks including insider trading.
Compliance experts recommend that both parties' compliance departments disclose the relationship, that Anthropic-related trades receive advance approval with written declarations that no non-public information was used, that trading blackout periods be established around earnings releases, and that Leopold himself ideally recuse himself from Anthropic trading decisions. Situational Awareness LP declined to comment, but is said to have added compliance personnel. Anthropic meanwhile stated that the company already has industry-standard conflict of interest, confidentiality, and insider trading policies.
