Anthropic IPO boosts AI hype, chip stocks lead rebound, Bitcoin trades sideways, oil prices retreat.
October 27 - Last night and this morning, Anthropic submitted an IPO application, briefly reigniting AI speculation sentiment in the market, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rising about 3% in a single day. Driven by this, the S&P rose 0.70% and the Nasdaq rose 0.82%, both ending two consecutive days of declines. On the other hand, ahead of the Federal Reserve's decision, the U.S. Treasury market remained calm. Oil prices edged lower, but the Middle East risk premium has not faded.
In addition, dramatic turbulence in the Brazilian market seized global attention. As Lula unexpectedly won the election, Brazilian stocks, bonds, and the real simultaneously plunged, with many individual stocks falling more than 30% in a single day and some dropping over 50%. Investors worry that the new government will expand fiscal spending and push up inflation expectations, and Brazil's 5-year credit default swap (CDS) spreads have soared sharply.
On individual stocks, according to data from the BIT stock platform, star stock Nvidia rose 2.4% and Micron rose 2.98%. CoreWeave reversed its pre-market decline and closed up 1.76%. Optical communications remained strong, with LITE up over 8% and AAOI up over 6%. Neocloud stocks shorted by Musk were relatively strong, with only NBIS falling 3.48%, while other major stocks closed higher. The storage sector was little changed, with SNDK up 1.42%.
Crypto-related stocks broadly declined, with MSTR down 4.21%, the previously standout NEAR treasury company down 10.48%, BMNR down 6.52%, and CRCL down 7.07%.
Separately, according to HTX market data, ahead of the Federal Reserve's interest rate meeting, market sentiment was cautious, with Bitcoin fluctuating in the $80,000 range and currently at $80,094.20.
