Two brothers in the United States, who robbed over $8 million in cryptocurrency at gunpoint, have been sentenced to 15 years and 15.5 years in prison, respectively.
October 30 — According to an announcement by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota, Raymond Christian Garcia and Isiah Angelo Garcia were sentenced on October 29 to 180 months and 186 months in prison, respectively—15 years and 15.5 years—for their involvement in an armed kidnapping and crypto asset robbery.
According to court documents, the two traveled from Texas to Minnesota on September 19, 2025, kidnapped a victim's family at gunpoint in their home, bound them with zip ties, and held them at gunpoint for more than 9 hours, demanding that the victim hand over assets in crypto accounts. Because the transferred amount fell short of expectations, the two then forced the victim to drive one of them to another cabin, retrieve additional crypto asset storage devices, and transfer funds, ultimately stealing more than $8 million in crypto assets.
After the victim's son called 911, the two fled the scene and were later arrested near Houston. Both had previously pleaded guilty on June 18, and the case was jointly investigated by the FBI and the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
