Binance Chinese Community Head: $6.3 billion loss borne by Binance, affected wallet system rebuilt and security rectification completed

Nov 4, 13:52

November 4 - Binance Chinese community lead Sisi posted a response to recent security incidents, stating that the responsibility for the $6.3 billion loss lies with Binance, and the related losses will be compensated by Binance. She stated that user assets have always been there, and Binance has never misappropriated user assets; after the resumption of withdrawals, the platform has fulfilled withdrawal demands of the same magnitude as the stolen amount. Sisi stated that the frozen and intercepted funds will be tracked and recovered transaction by transaction by Binance in collaboration with law enforcement agencies and on-chain institutions.

According to disclosures, as of November 3, the affected wallet system has been rebuilt in a completely new environment, internal AI tools have been rebuilt with tightened permissions, all affected devices have been replaced, and relevant credentials and tokens have been invalidated, while device scanning, wallet risk control, and anomaly detection have been strengthened. According to an FBI notification, this attack came from a nation-state adversary. Since the beginning of this year, Binance has intercepted 57 attacks suspected to be from the same source. The attackers lurked for months, gradually infiltrating through fake recruitment, tampered development tools, zero-day malware, and other methods, and used internal AI tools as an attack springboard.

In addition, Binance is willing to share the characteristics of this attack with other trading platforms and participate in industry-wide real-time early warning, suspicious fund tracking, and joint risk prevention. Binance will invite an independent third-party security agency to review the rectification situation and announce the conclusions to the public after they are reached.
