Ethereum Foundation calls for self-check of eight invariants for Glamsterdam, Hoodi fork still delayed.
November 6 - According to the Ethereum Foundation blog, researcher Marius van der Wijden stated that Chainsecurity recently discovered that some projects rely on several invariants, which will be broken by EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 in the Glamsterdam upgrade—the two proposals restructure the gas accounting methods related to certain operations and state. Based on these findings, the Ethereum Core Developers (ACD) meeting has decided to delay the hard fork process and temporarily not execute the fork on the Hoodi testnet until the issue is resolved.
The article states that the Foundation is collaborating with multiple audit firms and conducting internal audits, but it is difficult to cover all projects on-chain and their off-chain code. Therefore, the Foundation publicly calls on contract developers, auditors, and others to self-check projects against the eight invariants that will be broken; the Foundation has published a relevant repository containing invariant descriptions, examples, and prompts that can be used for self-checking.
