Democrats lay early groundwork for 2028 election, with over a dozen potential candidates possibly entering the race.

November 6 — According to US media reports, Democrats achieved a historic victory in the midterm elections, but that does not mean the party can easily win the 2028 presidential election. Democratic insiders have quickly shifted their attention to what could become the most unpredictable and contentious presidential primary in decades. By convention, the end of the midterm elections marks the informal start of the next presidential campaign cycle. In the coming weeks, multiple Democratic organizations will hold rallies to discuss the party's future direction and which strategies may work in 2028. Several Democrats have already begun laying the groundwork for a run, including hiring staff, traveling to early primary voting states, and meeting with donors.

Although Democrats dealt Republicans a heavy blow in Tuesday's elections and morale is high, the next round of elections is likely to expose divisions within the party over its direction and how to win voter support. No Democrat has yet emerged as a clear front-runner, and the final number of candidates could reach more than ten. Whoever ultimately becomes the Democratic presidential nominee will face a political environment different from the current one and potentially more severe.
