"Bitcoin Jesus" Roger Ver Reaches Deal with Trump Administration, to Pay Up to $49.9 Million to Settle U.S. Tax Charges

October 18 – According to Reuters, early Bitcoin investor Roger Ver, known as "Bitcoin Jesus," has reached a deferred prosecution agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice to resolve criminal charges of alleged mail fraud and tax evasion. Under the agreement, if Ver complies with the relevant terms, the indictment against him will be dismissed after one month, and the IRS may recover up to $49.9 million from him, covering taxes, civil penalties, and interest.

The U.S. Department of Justice previously alleged that Ver failed to pay at least $48 million in taxes after renouncing his U.S. citizenship in 2014 and obtaining citizenship of St. Kitts and Nevis. Ver was arrested in Spain in April 2024. Earlier this year, he publicly called on Trump to help end the legal action against him, but ultimately did not receive a presidential pardon; instead, the case was resolved through an agreement with the Trump administration. Ver expressed gratitude for the resolution of the case and for the leadership and professional handling of the Trump administration.
