Qubic: 1,404 wallets hacked, approximately 2.94 trillion QU stolen, network suspended
On October 18 that between 23:42 on October 17 and 01:26 UTC on October 18, attackers exploited insufficient randomness in the generation of certain wallet Seeds to access and drain approximately 2.94 trillion QU from 1,404 Qubic wallets. The team emphasized that the issue lies with the Seed generation mechanism, not the Qubic protocol itself.
Affected Seeds include those created before October 18, 2026 in any browser on iPhone or iPad, those created before the same date in Mac Safari, and those created before July 2025 via the Qubic iOS App. The network has been paused at tick 85,371,949. 87.1% of the stolen funds remain within the Qubic network and have been frozen, while the remaining 12.9% has been transferred to MEXC, with corresponding receiving accounts also frozen.
Qubic stated that the Seed generation issue has been fixed in version 4.26.4. Subsequent actions will be determined by the Computor quorum according to network rules, and a complete technical report will be released after the fund recovery plan is finalized.
