US CFTC to Hold Dec 15 Roundtable on 24/7 Trading in Derivatives Markets
Oct 29 – The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced that it will hold an industry roundtable on Dec 15 to discuss the feasibility of implementing round-the-clock (24/7) trading in derivatives markets. The meeting continues the CFTC's work this summer seeking public comment on extending trading hours for standard futures contracts and introducing perpetual futures mechanisms.
According to reports, the meeting will be held at the CFTC's headquarters in Washington and streamed publicly. The specific agenda, speakers and registration information will be announced later. The meeting will cover topics including overnight trading, asset tokenization, infrastructure development, staffing and operational readiness, exploring how to protect the rights of market participants and maintain the integrity and resilience of U.S. derivatives markets while advancing financial innovation.
CFTC Chairman Selig said the regulator will not take a "one-size-fits-all" approach to 24/7 trading, but instead hopes to hear from all sides of the industry so that trading mechanisms for different asset classes can develop in a prudent and responsible manner.
