Tether Freezes Over 4.5 Million USDT Linked to Brazilian Exchange Mercado Bitcoin Security Incident

November 2 — Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino posted that Tether has frozen more than 4.5 million USDT related to the Mercado Bitcoin security incident. Earlier,Brazilian crypto exchange Mercado Bitcoin issued an official statement disclosing that a security incident occurred in its systems in the morning of that day and has now been identified and contained. Mercado Bitcoin said customers suffered no losses and no data breach occurred. As a precaution, the platform has suspended deposit and withdrawal services and is investigating the incident, tracing assets and coordinating with relevant authorities.
