November 3: After assessing productivity and risk, Goldman Sachs has barred most employees from using advanced artificial intelligence tools designed specifically for programming, a move that has drawn discontent from some people. For months, Goldman Sachs had allowed bankers to use Anthropic PBC's Claude Code and Microsoft's GitHub at work. Now the bank will restrict these tools to engineers only. A person familiar with the matter said the ban has upset some traders. They had previously used these tools to speed up parts of their work, such as monitoring client trading flows, modeling market changes and positions, and producing text and graphic content.
