OpenAI's Next-Gen GPT-6.2 Astra Reportedly in Gradual Rollout Testing, Already Listed Separately in Codex Usage Stats
November 3 — According to IT之家 (ITHome), feedback from a large number of users indicates that OpenAI's next-generation model GPT-6.2 Astra appears to have entered small-scale testing, with the standalone model identifier "gpt-6.2-astra" already appearing in some Codex users' usage statistics. However, OpenAI's official API model catalog, changelog and public announcements have confirmed neither the model nor a release date.
The report said multiple Codex users spotted this new model identifier on the usage analysis page, with GPT-6.2 Astra accounting for 19.8% of one account's call volume, and the related records mainly appearing in usage statistics for October 31. TestingCatalog believes this may mean OpenAI is running a gradual rollout or A/B test, forwarding some users' requests to the new model in the background while temporarily keeping the original interface name. Some Codex users have also reported that their GPT-6 Astra allowance is being consumed faster, which cannot be ruled out as being related to the GPT-6.2 Astra gradual rollout test.
