Apple Restricts Employee Participation in Prediction Markets, Bans Betting With Inside Information

Nov 4, 09:48

November 4: According to ITHome, Apple has filed its annual document with the U.S. SEC, updating its insider trading policy and listing prediction market trading as a separately prohibited item. Apple requires employees not to use Apple confidential information obtained through their work to place bets or trade on prediction market platforms such as Polymarket; even if such conduct does not constitute insider trading or securities trading under applicable law, it likewise violates company policy.

The new rules specify that employees may not use Apple confidential information obtained during work to participate in market activities that predict the outcomes of future events, with the restrictions covering Apple itself as well as other companies, suppliers, manufacturers, sellers, customers and business partners. Apple also prohibits employees from disclosing such confidential information to people who may engage in such trading. The adjustment is related to the development of prediction markets such as Polymarket and Kalshi in recent years; some markets even involve information about Apple's unreleased new products, including launch timing, configurations and prices.
