BitMart Says It Was Hacked Yesterday, Suspects Link to Mercado Bitcoin Attackers
November 4: BitMart founder Sheldon Xia said in a post on X that BitMart was also hacked yesterday, with a relatively small amount involved, and that the platform quickly investigated and strengthened its security measures. Due to restructuring, BitMart has retained only its core team. Doxxing and threats from users, as well as retaliation by some disgruntled employees including former head of marketing operations Elly, have made many technical staff unwilling to stay and maintain the systems in an environment facing personal attacks. Only after extensive communication were some key technical employees persuaded to stay and maintain core systems.
Sheldon said the platform is still facing a large number of attacks, and the security team is currently severely understaffed, but it is still doing its best to protect data and assets. Preliminary investigation shows that yesterday's attack may have been carried out by the same group that attacked Brazil's Mercado Bitcoin.
