US Media: The Democratic Landslide Is Only the Start of Uncertainty
November 4 — US outlet Axios analysis says there is no doubt the Democratic Party won a landslide victory, defeating Republicans by huge margins in red states and blue states and at every level of election, with margins in some districts even setting historical records. This victory nearly destroyed the political map that President Trump and the Republican Party he remade had built in American politics over the past decade. But more noteworthy is that the surviving Republican Party has instead become more supportive of Trump, and it is even less likely that anyone will step forward to challenge him. Those within the party who criticized Trump, even if quite moderate, were eliminated well before the election officially began. So the Republican Party must now face two more years, moving forward under an extremely unpopular leader while dealing with an equally unpopular war. Trump, embattled and stripped of face, will act in an even harder-to-predict manner.
Democrats now hold enough seats to open investigations into Trump, his family and his supporters, and are also capable of dominating the agenda-setting of both the Senate and the House. Although the Democrats won the election, as a party brand its public image remains extremely unpopular. In the coming months, the Democrats will work to repair their own image, and a fierce internal struggle over the political line will unfold along with it — especially the contest between the socialist faction represented by New York City Mayor Mamdani and the center-left moderate faction represented by Schumer.
