Anthropic: Claude Helps Solve First 3D Structure of Phage-Derived Prokaryotic Vault Particle
Nov 5, 04:42
November 5 — According to Anthropic, its biology research team, with Claude's assistance, completed the first three-dimensional cryo-EM structure of a vault particle assembled from the phage-derived L05 protein: it consists of 96 copies (48 per half-shell), has a mass of about 9.5 megadaltons and dimensions of about 54 nm × 45 nm, and its internal volume is about 25% larger than that of mammalian vaults; the team says the purification workflow was compressed from about 3 days to about 90 minutes, and the first structural model was completed in about 34 hours. Its function remains unknown; the related preprint has been submitted to bioRxiv.
