Ukraine's Central Bank Opposes Crypto Legalization Bill, Urges Lawmakers to Amend It Before Final Vote

Nov 5, 21:03

November 5 – According to Coindesk, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has refused to support a new bill aimed at legalizing and regulating cryptocurrencies, warning that the proposed rules could endanger the country's financial system and asking lawmakers to revise it before the final vote.

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) warned that foreign tokens acting as "electronic money" could threaten the country's monetary sovereignty and allow issuers to circumvent the relevant regulations governing Ukrainian assets. The central bank noted that the bill leaves the number of crypto trading platforms to the securities regulator's own discretion, which carries the risk of market monopoly and corruption.
