Aptos Officially Announces the MonoMove Upgrade Plan, Boosting Smart Contract Execution Speed by Up to 55x

Oct 6, 22:47

On October 6, Aptos officially announced the launch of its new execution engine, MonoMove, describing it as the largest scalability upgrade in the network's history, aimed at improving the execution efficiency and security of on-chain financial transactions.

According to test data released by Aptos Labs, during tests replaying real mainnet transactions from Decibel, MonoMove significantly improves execution speed compared to the current Move virtual machine. Specifically, collateral withdrawals are accelerated by up to 55x, vault requests by up to 40x, perpetual market requests by up to 38x, and order submissions by up to 22x. Additionally, internal benchmark tests simulating complex financial operations show an end-to-end throughput increase of up to 11x.

MonoMove is currently being integrated into the Aptos execution engine, with full functionality development expected to be completed by the end of 2026. It is planned to be deployed on the mainnet in 2027 pending governance approval. The aforementioned performance data are all from test environments and do not yet reflect actual mainnet operational performance.
