On October 24, according to Unchained, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) included tokenization as a high-risk review area for clearing agencies in its newly released 2027 Fiscal Year Review Focus Document, marking the first time the term has been mentioned after being absent from documents covering fiscal years 2025 and 2026.

According to the document, the SEC will focus its review on risk controls implemented by clearing agencies in areas including default risk management, recovery and exit mechanisms, securities lending, operations, and tokenization. Furthermore, under the review of Regulation SCI (System Compliance and Integrity), security tokenization is classified as an emerging technology trend, drawing attention alongside superintelligence, extended trading hours, and quantum computing.

Notably, the 2027 Fiscal Year Review Focus Document does not directly reference cryptocurrencies, digital assets, or stablecoins. The SEC emphasized that the document serves as regulatory guidance issued by staff and is non-binding.
