On October 28, according to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea's Financial Supervisory Service confirmed cybersecurity incidents at cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb, Mirae Asset Management, and Daishin Securities, with investigations currently underway.

Daishin Securities disclosed that the personal information and credit data of 38,490 clients were compromised. Bithumb discovered that its internal mobile office system was abnormally accessed by external unauthorized parties, and is currently assessing the exact scope of the data breach. The Financial Supervisory Service has dispatched an on-site inspection team to Daishin Securities and has ordered financial institutions to strengthen their IT security defenses.

Lee Chan-jin, chairman of the Financial Supervisory Service, stated that as AI is increasingly used for cyberattacks, security vulnerabilities may become easier to discover, and targeted strikes against multiple institutions could potentially become the new normal.
