Bypassing Constitutional Term Limits to Call Early Elections? One New Account Predicts Turkey Will Hold Presidential Election 2 Years Ahead

According to PolyBeats monitoring, on the prediction market Polymarket, a new account has placed a $2.4k bet on "Will Turkey hold early presidential elections in 2026?" for "Yes," with an average buy-in probability of 15.1%. The current probability for "Yes" is 18.0%.

The political motivation behind early elections is due to Erdogan nearing the two-term limit under the presidential system. Reuters explained on July 21 that if parliament decides on early elections during his current term, he can run for office again. Erdogan's current term theoretically ends on May 14, 2028. According to the system, the president can decide on early elections; however, parliament needs 360 out of 600 seats to approve. The ruling AKP and its allies currently hold 328 seats, 32 votes short of triggering the parliamentary process.
