July 31st, according to Bloomberg, Situational Awareness, an AI-themed hedge fund founded by 25-year-old Wall Street "AI Stock Market Wizard" and former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner, attempted to sell a portion of its holdings in private companies this week due to a rush to raise cash to meet margin calls from lending institutions.

According to sources familiar with the matter, as this hedge fund in distress sought to unload part of its positions, it approached multiple venture capital firms including Sequoia Capital and Greenoaks.

In a report today, after experiencing a roughly 67% drop in net asset value this month, Situational Awareness was forced to sell assets to Citadel and is now seeking new funding.
