Three Years After Rescuing Gemini, Sergey Brin Now Steps into Google AI's Frontline Again
According to Dynamic Beating's monitoring, Google AI has once again entered Sergey Brin's personal oversight. Amid Hashabis handing over the daily management of DeepMind and the departure of multiple core researchers, Brin's influence in Google AI's strategy has further increased. Now, Koray Kavukcuoglu, in charge of Gemini, has moved to Mountain View, with his desk right next to Brin's.
A similar situation occurred three years ago. When ChatGPT took off, Brin had already been away from Google's daily work for many years. At a gathering, an OpenAI employee asked him directly, "AI is undergoing the most transformative moment in computer science, what are you doing?" Brin later recalled that this question woke him up. Since then, he returned to Google, directly participating in Gemini's development, and Google has also caught up from the embarrassment of the early Bard days.
Now it's time for the second round. Gemini has already turned the tide once, but Google has been lagging behind in key battlegrounds such as programming and enterprise AI compared to OpenAI and Anthropic. In fact, Brin has never really left the front line of AI, but three years later, Google once again needs him to stand at the forefront.
