Microsoft is planning to significantly increase the production of its in-house AI chips. The next-generation MAIA 300 is set to be released in September.
August 10th, according to The Information, Microsoft's (MSFT.O) internally developed artificial intelligence chip project has shown signs of recovery after a slow start. Microsoft believes that its self-developed MAIA chip can run the company's internally developed models as well as OpenAI's models at a lower cost.
The company plans to increase its use of the MAIA chip, actively pursue large customers, and significantly increase chip production. It is reported that Microsoft plans to release the next-generation MAIA 300 AI chip in September 2026.
Microsoft has been in talks with TSMC (TSM.N) to ensure a production capacity of over 300,000 MAIA chips, with delivery scheduled for 2027.
