Oil Prices Surge Over 4.5% as Houthis Reopen Hodeidah Talks
August 10th, according to Bitget market data, both WTI and Brent crude oil rose by over 4.5%, with WTI crude oil priced at $79.72 and Brent crude oil priced at $85.16.
On the news front, Iran proposed several conditions before agreeing to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz, including ending the U.S. naval blockade, withdrawing U.S. naval and air forces from around Iran, compensating for recent conflict losses, lifting sanctions, and unconditionally unfreezing Iranian assets.
These demands have cast a shadow over the prospects of normalizing shipping, and the market continues to factor in a supply disruption risk premium into oil prices.
Meanwhile, negotiations between Iran and Oman on establishing a secure maritime route in the Strait of Hormuz are said to have made some progress. However, as the two parties have not yet reached an agreement on the full opening of the strait, investors remain cautious about energy supply risks.
Furthermore, Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed to have launched drone attacks on Saudi Aramco's oil facilities, further intensifying concerns about the security of Middle Eastern energy infrastructure in the market.
