Mainland China's Virtual Currency "Staking Mining" Scam Industry Chain Exposed, Overseas Social Media Platform Used for Long-term User Acquisition, Involving Over 3 Million Yuan

Aug 11, 13:57

August 11th. A recent investigation by a reporter from China's Qilu Evening News found a virtual currency "Staking Mining" scam industry chain with a long incubation period, high level of disguise, and assembly line operation. The scammer, under the guise of a perfect persona built through long-term social interactions, would then induce the victim to use overseas encrypted messaging apps, authorize a fake mining contract, and quietly siphon off the account funds.

According to the report, the scammer would initiate conversations on social platforms as a regular netizen, continuing for one to two months to create a "high-quality persona" (such as claiming to operate a maternity and baby shop in Hong Kong, showing strong empathy, and sending a "Wong Tai Sin" safety talisman), never mentioning investment throughout. After gaining trust, they would guide the victim to switch to overseas apps like WhatsApp and Discord (which support two-way deletion of messages, making evidence easily disappear), disguised as a "Staking Mining with Idle Hashrate" zero-risk passive income project, enticing the victim to download overseas cryptocurrency wallets and authorize fake contracts. The contract actually had asset transfer permissions, allowing the scammer to directly move the funds in the background, without needing a password. During this process, the scammer would first create a facade of real profits through small rebates to prompt the victim to add more investment.

It is currently known that there are more than 30 victims in this case, with a total amount involved exceeding 3 million RMB, and individual losses exceeding 300,000 RMB, spread across multiple provinces.
