Coinbase Commerce Expands Payment Options, Adds Support for AI Agents and USDT Payments
August 12, According to official sources, Coinbase announced that Coinbase Business is expanding its payment services to provide businesses with more flexible payment methods and support for more customers, including AI agents.
One key focus of this update is to support AI agent payments. As AI agents begin to autonomously purchase digital services, shop on behalf of others, and even execute transactions independently on the internet, traditional payment infrastructure struggles to meet the demands of these machine-to-machine transactions. Coinbase Business now supports AI agent payments through the open machine-to-machine payment standard x402, with funds settling instantly in USDC to the business's account, allowing the business to choose to earn interest or withdraw at any time. In addition, the Coinbase Business payment suite now fully supports USDT, allowing businesses to receive USDT through payment links, checkout pages, and invoices, with the funds automatically converting to USDC and settling in the Coinbase Business account.
Coinbase Business has also added features such as reusable payment links, flexible pricing, a unified product catalog, and buyer information collection. Businesses can create a payment link for reuse, set payment frequency limits, pause or close links; they can also set minimum or maximum payment amounts, suitable for scenarios such as donations, tips, and service-based billing. Businesses can enter product information once in the product catalog and reuse it across different payment methods, while collecting customer information such as names, emails, and shipping addresses. For businesses new to using crypto payments, Coinbase Business offers lower fees than credit cards, no chargebacks, instant USDC settlement, and the ability to earn interest on idle USDC balances.
