A 1.14 Billion BTC Short Whale Continues to Bet on No Rebound, Less Than 0.7% Away from Liquidation
August 12th, according to TradingBeats (formerly Hyperinsight) monitoring data, last night to this morning, a BTC whale with address starting with 0xff84 added to its already massive short position by 479.5 BTC, with a total transaction amount of approximately $30.45 million and an average price of around $63,496.7 per BTC.
At the time of writing, this whale was heavily shorting with a 40x leverage, holding a short position of 1792.6 BTC worth around $114 million; with an average entry price of $63,999.2, enjoying an unrealized profit of around $572,000, and a return rate of about 20.0%.
This $114 million short position left very little room for BTC to bounce back. BTC is currently trading at $63,681, the whale's liquidation price is $64,102.1, only about $421.1 higher than the current price, representing approximately 0.66%. The account value is around $2.193 million, with the nominal position in BTC about 52 times the account equity due to the additional short positions.
After adding a $30.45 million short exposure, this whale maintained its entire position at less than 0.7% from liquidation, indicating a low expectation for a significant BTC short-term rebound.
It has set up 36 "Reduce-Only" stop-loss market orders for all short positions, planning to buy back a total of 1792 BTC, with trigger prices ranging from $64,070 to $67,787, but liquidation may occur before these stop-loss orders:
The stop-loss closest to the current price is only about 0.61% higher, around $32 lower than the liquidation price. In the event of a rapid price increase or slippage at execution, these stop-loss orders may not completely prevent a liquidation of the position.
