No More "European Strategic Autonomy" for AI? Mistral Directly Acquires Smart Spectrum GLM-5.2

According to Tencent's Beating monitoring, Mistral has always championed "European Sovereign AI," but has now directly integrated a Chinese model into its platform. Mistral has announced the hosting of third-party open models, with the first being Z.ai's GLM-5.2 under the Smart Spectrum. The model runs directly on Mistral's infrastructure, enjoying the same regional control and service guarantees as its in-house models.

Prior to this, Mistral was compared to DeepSeek by the community. After the release of Mistral Large 3, researchers dissected the model configuration and found that it essentially adopts the same architecture as DeepSeek V3/V3.1, with the main adjustments being expert configurations and other details.

This time, Mistral openly brought a Chinese model into its "sovereign AI" system. Some in the community have already joked that in the future, European sovereign AI teams won't need to repackage Chinese models; they can simply provide European servers to Chinese models.

Jokes aside, Mistral has actually redefined "sovereign AI": models do not have to be trained by European companies; the key is that enterprises can choose models themselves and control where the model runs, where the data stays, and who controls the computing power.

Therefore, a Chinese model running on European infrastructure can still be considered "European Sovereign AI" within Mistral's framework.
