Republican congressman moves to impeach US defense secretary

Sep 16, 09:57

September 16: U.S. Republican Representative Thomas Massie submitted articles of impeachment against Secretary of Defense Hegseth on September 15 local time, accusing him of abuse of power for ordering hostile military action against Iran without congressional approval. The impeachment resolution has almost no chance of passing, but Massie's move may force the House of Representatives to hold a vote on it. It is reported that Massie submitted the articles of impeachment under a privileged motion procedure, which means the House of Representatives must consider and handle the impeachment case within two legislative working days and cannot shelve or delay it.
