Google seemingly created a 'math-obsessed version of Gemini,' solving problems until the screen is filled with exclamation marks.

Beating AI News Flash: Google is suspected to be testing a Gemini version specifically designed for high-difficulty mathematics, internally named Mathematica, which has not yet been officially announced.

It appears to belong to the Deep Think line. Deep Think is an enhanced reasoning mode of Gemini 3.1 Pro that attempts multiple solutions simultaneously. Google has previously developed a Deep Think specifically trained for mathematics. The version that participated in the International Mathematical Olympiad in 2025 was enhanced with multi-step reasoning and theorem proving, and could ponder a single difficult problem for several hours, ultimately reaching gold medal level.

What made Mathematica go viral was actually its "inner monologue" while solving problems. When working on an algebra problem, it would suddenly write "Wait" and "Oh my god," and upon discovering that an equation had been successfully simplified, it would fire off a long string of exclamation marks, as if it were getting hyped up doing math. Netizens also began joking that Google had created an AI that "genuinely loves math."

It is currently unknown what the differences are between Mathematica and the previous math-focused Deep Think, nor is it certain whether it will be officially released.
