Less than two days after OSC7501 was proposed, Claude Code was officially integrated.

Beating AI News Flash: Claude Code v2.1.295 officially supports OSC 7501. This terminal status protocol, just proposed by Ghostty creator Mitchell Hashimoto, allows Claude Code to proactively tell the terminal whether it is working, waiting for user input, or has completed its task, eliminating the need for external tools to guess from screen content. From the protocol's announcement to Claude Code's release, it took approximately 48 hours.

Claude Code also happens to be the very example Mitchell initially used to illustrate the problem. Herdr maintained 16 identification rules to determine Claude Code's status, and revised them about 10 times over the past 3 months. Even a change of a single character in Claude Code's loading animation could require re-adaptation.

Now the status is reported by Claude Code itself. As long as the terminal supports OSC 7501, it can directly know whether Claude Code is working, waiting for user action, or has finished. Mitchell stated that the Anthropic team has already validated this implementation using Rex, which currently has preliminary support.
