Anthropic reportedly preparing a Claude that better understands user intent, possibly Fable 5.5

Oct 20, 20:05

Beating AI News Flash: Anthropic is preparing to launch a new model that is better at understanding users' true intentions. According to The Information, citing an early tester, the new model's reasoning capabilities and ability to judge user needs exceed those of the currently available Claude. For example, if a user only asks to fix a bug, it may go further to identify the common issue causing such bugs and then ask whether to fix them all together.

The new model is also believed to be better at proposing unconventional solutions. For instance, if a user asks about stock investing, it may design a prediction algorithm on its own rather than merely repeating common analysis methods such as the price-to-earnings ratio. However, these assessments currently come from only one tester, and there is no public test data yet.

The community speculates that the new model may be Claude Fable 5.5. On October 13, LiteLLM synced `claude-fable-5-5` from the Azure model catalog, but deleted the entry the next day after an audit.

Meanwhile, Google is internally testing Gemini 4 Carbon. Business Insider previously disclosed that some employees believe its coding capabilities are already close to Claude Opus 5.5.

OpenAI is also preparing a new version of Terra, which sources say may be launched in the coming weeks, with further improved capabilities and a price expected to be lower than GPT-6.1 Sol.
