OpenAI plans to launch a series of policy initiatives after the U.S. midterm elections to strengthen its布局 in artificial intelligence regulation.
November 1 - OpenAI plans to launch a series of policy initiatives and public relations actions immediately after the U.S. midterm elections on November 3, to adapt to potential political shifts in Washington and influence the artificial intelligence policy debate in the 2028 presidential election.
Chris Lehane, OpenAI's Chief Global Affairs Officer, stated that the company has been preparing relevant policy proposals since August and is expected to launch them during the congressional "lame-duck session" starting on November 9. Specific measures include: promoting mandatory safety safeguards for the most advanced AI systems, setting "speed limits" on AI development to ensure humans retain control; easing resistance to data center construction through community partnership agreements and state-level legislative recommendations, and promoting the repositioning of new data centers as "AI compute parks"; expanding AI education and training and job support to help workers cope with technological change; and advancing U.S.-led global AI standard-setting based on democratic values. Lehane believes that AI will become a core issue in the 2028 U.S. presidential election.
