On October 21, citing Hong Kong Communications, Hong Kong police said on the "CyberDefender" platform that they received more than 50 investment fraud cases in the past week, involving losses of over HK$30 million. One of the victims, a retired woman in her sixties, met a man on a property sales platform who claimed to be interested in renting a flat. The man claimed to be an investment expert and persuaded her to invest in cryptocurrency, providing a fake investment website. The victim bought USDT at physical cryptocurrency exchange shops 20 times and transferred it to a wallet designated by the man to "buy ETH." At first she was able to withdraw some funds, but when she later tried to withdraw, the man demanded she first pay about HK$7 million in USDT as "tax." Only then did she realize she had been scammed, ultimately losing over HK$4.5 million.
