Polymarket Says It Has Investigated Dozens of Midterm Election-Related Trading Cases, With at Least Two Referred to CFTC
October 27 — According to NPR, Shana Bautista, Polymarket's global head of intelligence and investigations, disclosed that the platform has investigated "dozens" of trades related to the US midterm elections. According to people familiar with the matter, at least two of them have been referred to the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
Bautista previously worked at the FBI and joined Polymarket in June. She now leads a 16-person team reviewing trades through a newly launched election monitoring system ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. The system integrates information from multiple sources, including social media, Federal Election Commission (FEC) data, crypto companies and banking partners, and triggers hundreds of alerts every day.
She said that although Polymarket's international version allows anonymous trading with cryptocurrency, the team has been able to identify the likely trader in every case it has handled.
