AI Financing Trendsetter PIMCO Takes Profits, Cuts Meta and Oracle Positions by About Half

Oct 29, 00:01

Oct. 28 — According to Bloomberg, as artificial intelligence (AI)-related debt financing has accumulated to about $500 billion, bond giant Pacific Investment Management Co. (PIMCO), which helped kick off the financing boom, has trimmed some of its largest holdings.

According to people familiar with the matter, in some cases PIMCO began cutting positions only months after buying. Besides about $18 billion of Meta-related bonds in 2025 (when the firm became a cornerstone investor in a debt financing deal at about $18 billion, enabling Meta to build a large data center project in Louisiana without burdening its balance sheet), PIMCO funds also invested in $10 billion of Oracle-related deals. Filings show the firm has now reduced its holdings in both investments by about 50%. PIMCO trimmed the positions when the bonds were trading at high prices.
