Crypto-Friendly Rep. Huizenga Trailing in Reelection Bid, Future of House Digital Assets Subcommittee in Doubt

Nov 4, 21:17

Nov 4 — Journalist Eleanor Terrett posted on X that House Financial Services Committee Vice Chairman and crypto-friendly Republican Rep. Bill Huizenga initially led in his reelection bid but has now fallen behind Democratic candidate Sean McCann, and the race has not yet been called. Huizenga is a member of the committee's digital assets subcommittee, and the subcommittee's chairman Bryan Steil has also lost his seat, leaving the subcommittee's future uncertain. Because the subcommittee's name, jurisdiction and membership are all reset with each Congress, it could be renamed, have its functions adjusted, or be abolished. According to a tally by journalist Brendan Pedersen, with about 95% of ballots counted, Huizenga trails by more than 7,000 votes.
