DTCC Tokenization Service Initially Supports 25 Securities Backing Approximately $30 Trillion in Underlying Assets
On October 17, based on tokenization service details published by DTCC, this service will initially support 25 tokenizable securities underlying DTC-custodied securities valued at approximately $30 trillion. Tokens maintain a 1:1 correspondence with their original securities, share the same CUSIP, and provide rights and investor protections identical to book-entry securities, while official ledger records remain securely custodyed by DTC. 24/7 peer-to-peer transfers are enabled between DTC-registered wallets, with tokens subject to compliant transfer restrictions.
Users can submit conversion orders via UI and API on weekdays from 2:00 AM to 6:00 PM ET, targeting a processing time of under 15 minutes. US Treasury coupon payments and maturity services will be executed on-chain, with fiat payouts distributed directly to participants' traditional accounts.
The initial asset roster includes Russell 1000 constituents (rolling out starting with select large-cap stocks), select ETFs, and US Treasuries. The network rollout kicks off with Canton Network (CIP-56) and DTCC's private Besu network (ERC-20), while Stellar (SEP-41) and Circle's Arc (ERC-20) are scheduled to connect in 2027.
The subsequent roadmap encompasses expanding the range of tokenizable securities, integrating control functions such as single sign-on (SSO) and maker-checker workflows, scaling corporate action services for equities and ETFs, unifying book-entry and on-chain equity position records, supporting on-chain net settlement, collateral, and digital cash, and gradually broadening the scope of compliant DTC participants. Priorities for 2027 and beyond will be finalized in consultation with participants and industry stakeholders.
