Lagarde: Eurozone economy shows resilience, digital euro nears launch

Oct 17, 17:19

On October 17, according to Cointelegraph, ECB President Lagarde stated at the IMF Annual Meeting held on Saturday that the Eurozone's September inflation rate reached 3.8%, primarily driven by high energy costs. The ECB expects energy costs to ease next year, but energy shocks are expected to keep Eurozone inflation above the target level in the first half of 2027, indicating that moderate policy responses remain appropriate.

Lagarde also noted that the ECB is preparing a digital euro to complement cash and meet everyday payment needs. She added that the digital euro will further drive innovation and competition in the retail payments space, and ensure the coexistence of public and private payment solutions, to support Europe's strategic autonomy in the payments sector.
